So whats to stop me using a Tdi cover and V8 plate?

Presumably theyre different diameters?

What stops the V8 clutch from fitting Andrew? What makes the S3 clutch rattle?

I would be concerened that an S3 clutch wouldnt be man enough to handle a fully laden 101 towing a fully laden trailer... :?

V8 clutch is larger diameter, won't fit the tdi flywheel or bellhousing.
My clutch has now done 20,000miles of hard work, towing and off road, it's fine.
Rattle is something to do with damping springs or something in the clutch, I don't remember what but is sounded plausible at the time! It's not a problem though, my old ninety used to do it too.

The springs on the friction plate can rattle after a time with wear and tear, but I would expect them to be rattling in this case due to being compressed by the increased torque from the Tdi, and as such staying at the partially compressed length. I'd be worried if that was me..cos they are the symptoms I had before the clutch fiction plate exploded on the disco.

That doesnt sound good. I've heard of race Imp clutches exploding and cutting clean through the bellhousing

Maybe a hybrid plate then? V8 splines in a Tdi plate with a H/D Tdi cover.

H/D Tdi cover.

No such thing from Landrover, the tdi plate is available as a heavy duty one but the covers are all the same.

D4x4 sell the Defender 130 Hi Cap clutch as an upgrade for the Tdi......

Is the cover still the same on that?

As already mentioned, it's the clutch plate which is reinforced on the 130.

Taken from the Defender 110/130 parts catalogue, 300tdi engine:

FTC575 clutch cover
FTC2149 clutch plate
FTC1994 clutch plate (130)
