Hi Tom / Simon / all Billing attendees

Do the EMLRA know they are going to be in a 101 pincer move?

I'll be poaching some of EMLRA's stand space [with their permission] so I can get a big enough footprint to set the ground stakes to guy the Vampire mast. I'm hoping to go to full height [80 odd feet] with one of the Adcock's arrays on top, at least once over the weekend, this depends on wind speed and willing volunteers to assist. Anybody with experience of handling the mast guying 3 spool winch system will be especially welcome!

The Intercept DFC trailer mast will be erected to around 30 to 40 feet with the Log Periodic antenna in vertical mode. Going to that height, rather than 80 feet plus, means I don't have to set up another guying system and can rely on the trailer stabiliser legs.

Both the Vampire and Intercept will be open for public viewing. The Vampire now has a 90 - 95% interior fit. I was hoping to get the DFC up to about 50% interior fit in time for Billing following a gold mine of info at MVT Kemble, but the kit won't arrive in time now.

Simon, I would appreciate a good look around your Intercept and would be delighted if we could get the 2 Intercepts and the Vampire together for some photos. This depends on how accessible "my" Intercept DFC is on the stand as the Vampire won't be moving anywhere once the mast is deployed. Do you have military registration plates for your truck?

I'm hoping our EW "convoy" will arrive early to mid afternoon Thursday. The first couple of hours will be spent working out the optimum position for the Vampire and its guying footprint!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers

I assure you it went out on Friday but Tom does have a few spares. Maybe you and he could exchange mobile numbers to arrange pick up at Billing, if necessary?

I'll do my best to get you a medium tee, dunno what colour it'll be though!

I didnt get home from work till around 7pm. Have now packed the truck up but am totally knackered so am going to bed and will make a very early start tomorrow!

Last day of term is hectic enough anyhow without getting very big surprise demands 30mins before the place closes for 6 weeks!

Got back from Billing a couple of hours ago. Enjoyed the show and the opportunity to have a natter with many of the 101 Club members present.

However, apologies are due as I know I missed having a natter with some and didn't get back to others as I'd hoped.

Pleased to report that the Vampire was awarded a trophy as "Best Leaf Sprung Land Rover in Show".

Cheers

I left home at 4am on saturday and got there before opening to sit in a nice 101 queue to get on the stand! :)

Congratulations on the win Peter!

I was hoping to get over and say hello but never managed it!. I hope the M6 was ok traffic wise. I enjoyed being in the Vampire convoy for a while but opted to take the M1 home.

I had the GPS and was impressed that you pair could hold 60 with the trailers on (my ambi used to dream of 60mph!) - though the hills slowed you down!

I was impressed by Billing this year! (apart from the commercial stands in front of the club stands as the generators were annoying and the castle ruined the view....) - we got 13 vehicles on the club stand on Saturday!! - which was a very tight squeeze but looked great. Thanks to everybody who came. I have never seen that many 101s in one place before !

We are going to provide the pictorial evidence and ask for a bigger stand next year as we could have got more trucks on if we only had the space!

If anybody has any pictures please can you post them here, add them to the gallery or email them to me!. I'd like to get a big feature in Sixstud - and I only have a camera phone which hasnt taken the best pics (and is currently too flat to turn on!). I'd like some pictures of the arena too!

It was great to meet everybody along with some new faces. I look forward to seeing my ambulance's forthcoming twin! (RAL standard silver is such a good colour that someone else is using it!)

I'll post my pictures when I've got some beans back into the phone!

Thanks on behalf of the club for all of you who made the Billing show a great success. Sounds like a fantastic showing, with the full spectrum of our membership.

Sorry you got stuck in the back corner pete! - though you did get a pitch with a nice riverfront view! :) (despite the unfriendly wildlife!), and you didnt get as much hassle off the punters as Martin did!
Thanks for making your display boards for your truck too!. I feel very guilty that i havent got round to doing mine yet!

We are getting the hang of this show organising gradually!. by next year we should have it down!
We need to get an exact list of who is coming and what in first really so we can sort out positioning, and get it all perfect so that we dont have to shuffle about at 8am!... ;)

Though the shows so far have not been the best as I think every single one has messed up out pitch size/positioning somehow - and left tickets until the last minute!...

I dont mind being stuck in the corner........ but i have learned not the bang large tent pegs into ground above a wasps nest & when they start buzzing around to run sooner  ......im not one for posing....& being famous,,,,or having a super machine as it has draw backs as you get little privacy to go buy the bargains & have a good look around

Enjoyed the photos Neil. I had the same problem trying to "see" the Vampire mast against the trees. Probably just as well I didn't "fly" it to full height as you would have had to be miles away to get the whole thing in shot.

Hadn't realised it was your Ambulance I could see in the mirrors Tom. We decided to put the hammer down as Gareth, who was driving the Intercept for me, was in work at 5.30am this morning and had to get back to Shrewsbury once he'd dropped the Intercept in Northwich for me!

I usually use the A500 / A50 / M1 when going south to avoid the inevitable tailbacks getting into Birmingham. Heading north I usually use M1 / M6 as traffic is usually lighter and this route is faster - 2 hours 50 minutes including a stop for fuel yesterday - 3 hours 30 minutes including a "comfort break" heading south on Thursday cruising, about 5 mph slower than on the run home.

The award tankard was well and truly "christened" last night...........

Reference your comment on overcrowding on the 101 Club stand, PM me as I've an idea that might be worth following up.

Cheers

We, too enjoyed our visit from Scotland. Nearly 800 miles, 18 hours, 9 mpg all the way on gas. Thank you to all involved in organising. Thank you Roger for sorting my light switch. Both 101's behaved impecably on the journey. Happy at 65 mph, 68-70 starts to vibrate. I think Kevan used 5 litres of oil each way - more leaking than consumption probably. Nice to see so many 101's and their differences.

Was a great turn out and think we did ourselves proud. I gave some Six Studs away to people thinking about joining and ex members and had great feed back about the mag and a lot of interest about the club spares.

We gained some new members from the show and have pulled some ex ones back and I had lots of good comments from people about the variety of 101's we had on display.

Think next year i'm having your spot Pete as by Sunday morning trying to eat breakfast with 5 people looking in and asking questions was hard going. :)
