4x4 MARKET
Land Rover ~ Jap ~ Jeep

Building on knowledge gained over 10 years organising major national 4x4 events, the time has come to launch a completely new event that has been waiting in the wings for some time - 4x4 Market.

Comprising a series of nine Sunday markets held each month from March to November, 4x4 Market features a large 4x4 autojumble area (approx. 80% Land Rover, 20% Jap 'n' Jeep), 4x4 and off-road trade stands, a 'Vehicles For Sale' Area and an optional reduced fee off-road course at every venue.

As all the family are welcome, additional non-4x4 related trade stands will be present together with displays and attractions, kids amusements, refreshments and free parking. Admission ?5 adults, children (under 16 yrs) free. 8.30am ? 4.00pm

CLUB STANDS:

Free Club Display Stands are available upon application (with as many display vehicles as you wish), but being a Sunday event as opposed to a full-blown 3-day 4x4 show, all persons staffing the pitch have to pay their ?5 admission fee in the normal manner. Basically this entry fee pays for the venue! Children under 16 years old are still free of course.

The only other thing I ask is that clubs/groups ?make an effort? by displaying an information board, distribute flyers about the club or an event they are running or associated with (flyers distributed from within the confines of the pitch please ? NOT the car park ? been there, done it!) tell the world about their charitable works or assistance to the rescue services in times of disaster (flood, etc. ? most apt at the moment) or whatever your club/group is all about. Displays incorporating hi-lift jacks/logs/axle-stands/etc. also encouraged; as long as they are safe, then no problem. The selling of club merchandise is also okay, but no new or used parts/accessories please - clubs/groups ?tacking the Mick? by ignoring this basic rule will simply be charged for an autojumble or trade pitch! Last but not least, the selling of food or drink from a Club Display Stand is not permitted.

Basically, a club/group may promote itself or its events as much as they like, that?s how we all get along in the wonderful world of off-roading! LAND ROVER, JAP OR JEEP, WE?RE ALL IN IT TOGETHER - LET?S BEAT THE MOANING ?ANTIS?!!!

To book a Club Display Stand, simply contact myself Tom McGuigan via email or telephone.

Thank you.

I think the club would rather have been asked first - we'd charge you to advertise in the club magazine after all.

Having said that, we could do Cowm quarry....

Understand fully Steve. It?s an awkward one for all webmasters and forum moderators because ?Events? sections in club forums (and the entire forum for that matter) are all about knowledge and the transfer of information, whether it be for club members themselves or visitors wanting to know more about the club?s activities. Then there are event organisers like myself trying to ?spread the word? by informing the membership of 4x4 events around the country.

Be aware, I am not a massive publishing house backing a prestigious Land Rover magazine or a large corporate company that can afford to take out full page colour advertisements in glossy magazines, I?m just a club enthusiast like yourself that is putting on events in our little world of 4x4 (and Land Rover and off-roading are very small compared to other branches of motoring). This I can only do with the assistance of the clubs themselves, for without this help I can?t spread the word. Result? There would be no more small, affordable Land Rover/4x4 events any more, just the big shows charging OTT prices for camping, off-roading and admission. Imagine them charging just ?15 for an all-day off-road course ? I don?t think so!

As for contacting the clubs first asking for permission, I used to go down this route and always acquire permission, but nowadays for anyone to actually reply is a minor miracle! Generally committee members just don?t bother (I?m sure you do, but I assure you most do not), so when one is contacting up to 500 clubs the solution is to post first, then gauge the reaction. Some like the Lightweight Land Rover Club have just said they regard it as ?important? to inform the membership, others will view it solely as advertising and remove it immediately. Respect and accept your observation, for this I apologise unreservedly.

As I say it?s awkward as you?re in a no-win situation - dammed if you do, dammed if you don?t. The blatant advertising of commercial products (spam) such as accessories, vehicles sales and the like is easy to monitor, they are tangible products which people already know are in the marketplace, whereas the announcement of a new event or inviting a club to attend is something everybody wants to hear about, yet they are still commercially-based. ?Caught between a rock and a hard place? ? that about sums it up!

Not wanting to take the Mick, after all I moderate my own forum for the Landy Rally European Charity Drive, I therefore mean what I say ? ?obviously remove immediately if regarded as spam?. It?s your choice.

Forgot - whatever you decide, no problem regarding a Club Display Stand at Cowm Quarry, Rochdale or any other of the venues!

However, you'll never get the Adam's Family that far north, they would get a nose-bleed!!! :P

Hello Tom,

Surprised to see you on here, as you're not into 101's. Also surprised to see you're now down in Bournemouth, I would have thought its a bit too select for you.

So you've given up the the Land-Rover record number racket and muscling in on Capel and the Old Sod's territory. What are you doing - combining an off road show with a Sortout and are you still relying on the Twickenham Off Roaders for help? Last time I saw that lot was at Phil's funeral but did see Viv and Mole at the last Newbury Sortout.

I doubt if I will get to any of your does this year but will probably see you around, as normal. Incidentally are you still in the book racket? Have you found any 101 sales brochures since I asked you a few years back, if you haven't, how many would you like?

Regards, Les.

You're right, I'm not keen on the hinterland and probably would have a nose bleed, I prefer it north of the border. Had some good times in Scotland, God's chosen country! Certainly didn't like Southport when we evacuated there during the war, we returned to London and braved the Doodle-bugs!

Les ? how the devil are you Sir? Long time no see. Maybe I?m not into 101?s but I have always loved ?em and I still gotta have a V8 throbbing away in front of me (in your case under you!)

Found the roughest, dirtiest, smelliest part of Bournemouth I could find, well, just outside as the centre is far too posh, so here I am happy as a pig in ........ Close my eyes and I think I?m back in South London, well, apart from the sirens wailing and the smell of pie & mash in the air! Haven?t been to TOR Twickenham Off-Roaders for years, typical club ?falling out? so I started a new one in Sunbury called S.O.R.E. Sunbury Off Road Enthusiasts. Some faces there you would know ? Terry Welch who pops down from Holbeach Lincolnshire to see us every so often (he?s now up to 3 Scammell Pioneers and 2 showman?s trailers!!!) John the Plumber, Kate & George Lawrence ? like bad pennies mate, we keep turning up!

No more Land Rover world records, Land Rover directories or collecting 101 brochures. Been there, got the t-shirt/video/mug, time to move on to pastures new.

Tragic about Phil. Still can?t believe it and it?s been a while since he left us. The TOR mob have seen Viv right though, so that is a comfort.

As the 4x4 MARKETS, don?t think Jim The Old Sod will be losing any sleep over me. My events are totally different as they will combine autojumble, 4x4 trade stands and associated 4x4 attractions; a mini-4x4 show if you like.

?Certainly didn't like Southport when we evacuated there during the war, we returned to London and braved the Doodle-bugs!? ? don?t you mean Zeppelins?

To save a wasted journey …

Please be aware the 4x4 MARKET at Matchams Stadium & Leisure Park, Hurn Road, Bournemouth, Dorset BH24 2BT is Sunday 16th March 2008,

NOT this coming Sunday 9th March as incorrectly listed by LRO (Land Rover Owner) magazine April issue. Sorry, their mistake not mine!

Please note (especially D101) … It is with regret the 4x4 MARKET event scheduled for 18th May at Tulley’s Farm nr. Crawley, West Sussex HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Unfortunately this is due to a clash of dates with Sodbury Land Rover Sortout who recently have announced plans not only to move their date to 18th May 2008, but also their venue from Berkshire to Hampshire!

To quote the organisers: “A fledgling series of events such as 4x4 MARKET cannot hope to compete with the likes of Sodbury Land Rover Sortout, an event which has been going for well over a decade … especially as it’s now being held within the same region! We are sorry to disappoint everyone but it wouldn’t be fair on either the sellers or buyers to run an event compromised in such a manner, therefore the decision was made to cancel what otherwise would have been an great new event for the region”.

This decision does not affect other 4x4 MARKET events which will still take place as advertised at various venues across the country. 010202 421284~ 07958 216266 ~ www.4x4-market.co.uk
