As I'm not normally silly enough to frequent ebay, I was advised there is an advert with a drawing of my vehicle, 00AM97, on the site by a number of members. I phoned the dealer, who was offering £7000, this morning and asked him to remove the offending item as it was causing distress and possible heart attack. Apparently he had found the picture on the internet and used it not knowing it was owned by anyone as it didn't have a VRN, not realising it did, 00AM97! I was already aware of the drawing, obviously from a photo, but I don't know who the artist was?

This is why I find the internet & computers so dangerous as there are no controls over what's put on them. Especially facebook & twitter!

Les.

with respect Les you have no rights at all over the use of a picture of "your" vehicle unless you own the copyright of said picture itself.

the ebay seller may not own the copyright either and so has no right to use the picture, but the mere fact you own the vehicle displayed does not give you any say in the matter at all. You are of course free to ask the seller to reconsider their actions but you cannot demand anything of them

I'm not stupid. as historian, I have to know about copyright and if you read what was written I don't know who put the drawing on the internet or the artist? I phoned the guy, as I thought it was an old friend from the Range Rover Register that lives in that area, with whom I spent many happy years playing in the mud, was winding me up. However the guy is a dealer flogging Defenders and wants to obtain a 101, hence the advert! I explained to him that it was my vehicle and that 00AM97 was indeed an RAF VRN used on it and allowed its recognition as my vehicle and he agreed to remove the offending advert. There was no aggro' and I advised him to join the 101FCC&R if he was lucky enough to obtain one.

Thing is now Les, would you, or do any of us wish to try and sell ours, for £7K? And if you'd let him keep the picture of yours up there, I could have said I was one digit out on the VRN, "That'll be £6,999 please", and you could have come in for the full £7,000 8) , Pity the man who's thinking about it and his VRN is 70AM96  Simon

The point is I don't wish to sell my vehicle whatever he offers, as far as i'm concerned he can't afford it! Why don't you sell him yours if you are tempted by the money offered?

Incidentally, the same thing happened to my son, Ray, when we were at the last Dunsfold show with his bronze green 24V RHD winched GS, as "Trader" Jack sold the vehicle to a KIWI guy for £20,000 to take back to NZ as a wind up while we were on walkabout. Needless to say the Kiwi guy couldn't understand that he couldn't afford the vehicle!

Yes, you can see the drawing and I was going to say look at the ebay advert but then found the guy had kept his word by removing it, replacing it with a side view gs photo. so have attached the original found on the internet. I don't mind it being shown on here as its not a bad drawing, even though I can spot things wrong with it. I have even thought about printing and framing it.

If anyone would like to have their 101 drawn, my neighbour does them. She is one of 41 medical illustrators in the country and her work is out of this world. She can do black & white or colour from a picture or a commissioned one.
I won’t put the cost here as you will only say “How Muuuuch”?
