Hi all I’ve just joined your forum as I’m a long time Landy fan, but never owned a 101.

While I’ve always hankered after a GS rag top with petrol v8, I spotted this for sale (not on eBay).

Looks modified, but well done. Galv chassis, Mazda 3.5 diesel auto conversion.

Anybody know it or owned it? Opinions? Thoughts?

recommend you find someone local to you with a 101 so you can go look at and if possible drive.

i'm no expert on diesel conversions but would suspect the gearing would be a little low unless the diff's and/or transfer box final drive gearing has been raised.

It's hard keeping a 101 original, but I suspect the closer they are to original the higher the price and resale. If resale and originality isn't an issue then maybe a diesel conversion makes sense... but personally, I doubt it. Hard to get everything integrated and working well, no standard parts and many bespoke. I suppose, in the long run, it might prove easier to find a mechanically problematic vehicle and spend the time and money to fix it. You'll get to keep the historic, MOT and tax exempt status too plus qualify for cheap insurance - that should pay for any fuel saving you might have running a diesel.

Thanks folks!

I went for a look, it was a tidy landy, but I think I really want a GS with rag top.
