this looks to be a 2b fwd control, nothing like the military 101.

No it is not a IIB forward Control (110" w.b.) nor is it a IIA Forward Control (109" w.b.). The Forward control cab and layout is by Bates, not land Rover therefore no Land Rover Forward Control designed or built by Land Rover looks like this, uses this chassis or uses these panels.

It is a Bates conversion, not a Carmicheal conversion.
