Had some bad news this week after sending my steering box away for reconditioning.. needs a new worm gear as what's left of the original one is beyond help! I'm after a good second hand one preferably lhd but apparently I can use the worm gear out of the rhd version so either will do. Failing that it's going to have to be a power steering conversion so any info on that would also be appreciated as I may have to look down this route if I can't track a replacement down.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Inner column and worm gear are different on LHD and RHD so no you can't use a RHD one I'm afraid.

Don't Craddocks still do recon steering boxes at a reasonable price? Or Blanchards maybe still stock the inner column.

My box is being replaced and I am putting in a P38 steering Box. The cost for reconditioning a poorly designed unit makes nonsense to me. I may consider selling it next month.

I'll document the process for others interested in a power steering upgrade and more reliable steering set up. P38 boxes sell in great condition for $75 in the US junk yards. They are fairly bullet proof compared to many Rover steering options and fit the available space well.
