Post subject:  Speedometer

Just completing a rebuild and regrettably the speedo isn’t working, the trip is working but not the needle
Any advice guidance or options appreciated.. regards david..

If the odometer is working, then there is nothing wrong with the cable, so the problem is internal to the speedometer.

After a period of non-use, the most likely cause is corrosion or debris in the small air-gap between the drag cup attached to the needle and the housing. (If the problem was in the air-gap between the rotating magnet and the drag cup, the needle would be banging on the max-reading end-stop ... ) It might also be a jammed drag-cup bearing.

Either way, you need to dismantle the speedometer, by carefully bending back the crimped lugs holding the bezel onto the body, undo the screws holding the innards into the casing, and inspect.
