I have decided the time has come to sell my LHD FC101 ambulance.

She has loads of history and is well known within the club as she previously belonged to another member.
She will come with a new MOT, 6 months tax (so can be driven home).
Completely original and in very good condition she is ready to go for anyone who wants an historic military vehicle.

Originally built in 1976 she was commissioned in 1981 and assigned to 230 squadron (helicopters) in Gutersloh, Germany where she was the backup ambulance on the base. She spent most of the early years of her life in a nice dry hanger which may account for the exceptionally good condition of her chassis. In 1990 she was deployed to the Gulf for Gulf War 1 - where she was deployed with 230 squadron and acquired her unusual paint scheme. The story has it that there were three identical 101s deployed (I have spoken with someone who remembers unloading the three of them in the Gulf) and the base commander requested that they be painted differently to aid with identification.
One of the three was left as it was, one was painted with spots and this one acquired her unique 'tiger' stripes (I have seen a photo of the three of them parked in the desert with their crews). Coincidentally 230 Squadron is also known as Tiger Squadron. After her deployment to the middle east she was returned to the UK and was purchased by Laurie Wright - a former Land Rover International contributor. He showed her extensively throughout Europe before selling her to me.

Since that time she has been repainted (maintaining her unusual stripes) and many minor niggles rectified. She is so original that there even remains Kuwaiti crude oil stamped into the floor treads.

Due to a change in circumstances I am no longer able to keep her and would like to sell her to someone who values such a unique piece of history and who will not convert her to a camper.

Price is £6000 or offers. She will come with some spares including two brand new genuine (and unobtainable) rear shock absorbers, two used but good genuine front shock absorbers (she had 2 genuine new ones fitted to the front axle last year), spare air tank, carburettors and other miscellaneous items. I may even include the 'famous grouse' that is associated with her!

Please contact me on 0787 829 8090 if interested.

If I didnt allready had my own ex Gulf war ambulance, I´d buy yours.
I´ve followed Laurie and Mabel for many years in LR magazines and love Land Rovers with a good story and devoted keepers...
The next owner will hopefully follow the path for Mabel so we can enjoy her for many years to come.
Too bad you have to sell

She was still for sale a couple of weeks ago. If she's still for sale in March, I'll pull the trigger. I would have done it a couple of weeks ago but the usual "other stuff" came up.

No disrespect intended Nick or our colonial cousins, but it would be nice if this one could stay in the UK. We seem to be losing to many 101's lately to the colonies.

Hi Steve,

Yes still for sale though possibly not much longer. Someone from Northampton is coming to look at her tomorrow.

Had quite a bit of interest - Nick in the US, another from Bristol, one more from Derbyshire and another from Jersey but something always gets in the way at the last minute.

I'm in no hurry so haven't re-advertised anywhere either. Just waiting till the right buyer comes along and if they don't I may even keep her.

She does have a few spares with her as well. Spare compressor and tank, eberspacher (minus metering pump), brand new rear shocks, an inlet manifold and a pair of Strombergs and a few more miscellaneous bits and pieces (including an enormous camo net, poles and baskets). Somewhere I have a brand new pair of manifolds but as yet they haven't turned up since my recent move to the Midlands (so not included in the sale) - they may possibly be lurking in the garage in my rental property in Lancashire. Might be some 900x16 bar grips up there too perhaps (can't remember).

Now sold subject to payment.

Going to a good home with a Lady owner who intends to show her.

Understood. Was just playing up my 'transplanted Geordie' status as a mitigating factor.

Congrats on the sale, OG.
