I ve been 'head in the shed' for the last 4 months solid, working on the truck and wood gassifier and for sure my brain would have frazzled if i didnt have quality tunes to jigg about to.
Sea sick steve has featured a lot, along with The WHO, David Guetta, some banging didgetechno!
Listening to the radio has happened but not greatly. Anyone else have fave shed tunes to bodge along to and what's your best shed tune!
Mine has definetly got to be Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff for when it all goes tits-up!
Cheers
G

Normaly just stick on the radio which is tuned to Kerrang. Decent rock for most spannering. Otherwise the ipod on random which could be anything from Seasick and Johnny Cash to Prodigy.

All old school for my shed -Stones, Floyd, Who, Led Zepp, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Floyd, etc, plus if I can get my MP3 off my daughter, it's full of Pink Floyd.

Usually iPod, either albums, or on random.
Fairly eclectic mix. Green Day, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Kasabian, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Mumford and Sons, Dragoon Guards Band etc, us some other classics like MC Hammer and 'Can't touch this'

Radio is usually Radio 2, but not a great fan of Steve Wright or Dale Winton.

I prefer the sounds of .......nothing  With all the daily noise polution the quiet, except for tools in use is a wonderful experience, peace & tranquility with no rush to complete the job IS the ideal way to do a proper job. The best work is achieved out of hours at a slow pace

I have a crusty old stereo in the garage and a stack of tapes that are gradually being destroyed by the grinder dust sticking to them. If I'm feelin chilled its dub reggae, if I'm pushed for time hardcore punk tends to speed things up.
But as old-fart-ness approaches I quite often prefer to just listen to the birds!! (The avian vertebrate group NOT the 60s pop group!)

Pete wins the prize!!
On the tele tonight there was the results of the latest study (of course the latest study is CORRECT), any back ground noise from radios or other devices interfers with concentration levels and the ability to remember...guess I will now unplug my walkman....what was I saying?
So Pete it has nothing to do with getting older
Cheers

I find music can help you set (and keep up) a pace. It can also be a great mood lifter when you're doing a pain in the arse job, or starting to lose momentum/interest.

Lots of stuff works, but for some reason fast paced pipe tunes and some really cheesy eurovision songs seem to work best.

I find when i listen to metal while working on anything (car/house/whatever), my work always seems to get a lot more brutal and often involve hammers ;)

i had a limp bizkit day yesterday...break stuff really loud and hammers were involved!
i ve been up to my nuts in the truck for ages and got her running sweet and went on holiday in it for a few days. My trike needed a little attention for the mot and to get it to the bulldog this weekend. I worked through the night friday, to get everything sorted. My insurance was sorted on thursday and a pdf file sent to my email address i have had for years so i could download and print off. Mot went sweet (24miles to the nearest 3wheel mot garage and back 24miles) Not a problem. back home at 11.40 am. print off insurance docs.....HUGE FUSKING PROBLEM. My email address was shut down and i had no file to print off
LIMP BISKIT MOMENT
Today is a much different day....jubillent even.... I fired the truck up on woodgas...OH YES!!! The whole system needs a damn good tweeking and some more water drains; smaller size bits of wood as fuel in the burner; drier wood going in so i need to make a pre drier chamber on the side of the main burner; some cable operating mechanism for both fuel and air valve; some new engine cover mods to pipework routing
She ran up to about 3-3500 rpm for about 20 seconds and promptly died away. she fired up again for about the same length of time and then again died away. Everything is variable at the moment and i have much to learn yet but the concept is well feasable. The last thing done this evening was to see by means of the system start exhaust how long a sustainable flame would burn on 1 charge of wood and that came in at 1.5 hours as near as damn it.
I have a lot to learn about the colour of the flame and what that means in terms of combustabiliby and how to best achieve the best results by packing the burner better looser or tighter and of course what size wood lumps burn best in my burner. If tree shreddings turn out best then tonight i have found a source that has as much to give away as i can cope with!
Ers coming along just swell and there maybe some footage to come on the weekend on you tube for anyone interested :D :D :D
