The first of many ??

"Breakfast on the tailgate of a 101, in the Car Park of a national trust beauty spot"

Seemed like a novel idea, but which one?

Three of us decided to get up and got to Box Hill for a nosh up. As I'd done the evening meal at Santa Pod, Graham put himself up for providing Breakfast. The contents of which is a bit of a memory test...

Orange Juice
Tea or Filter coffee
Duck Eggs,
Fried Slice,
Hash Brown
Fried baby tomatoes
Tinned Tomatoes
Mushrooms
Beans
Bacon
Venison Sausages
Bread and Butter

Many people passed by and chatted and even Mr Plod cruised by, Pics attached.

The whole thing was a real fun, we are now planning more culinary challenges such as Steak, Chips and a glass of Red for sunset at Devils Dyke.

Steve,

I was just thinking, Graham and I seem to be falling into a pattern whereby he's done rhe breakfasts and Im doing the dinners. So true to form, you'd best talk to Graham about your brekky as I'm working that weekend.

Planning an outing with a 101 so as to include a meal al fresco dining is certainly to be recommended. Santo Pod was very cool - cocktails upon arrival and a wholesome and tasty carbanara accompanied by a very fruity Rioja. Evening concluded with a rather tasty and strong real ale. Having set the bar so high this morning breakfast had to at least match the experience. Judging by the empty plates after this morning's breakfast I guess it hit the spot.

In terms of the 'kitchen' the tail gate makes a great work area and I have a tarp which is extend over supported on two poles. In the slightly longer term I purpose built extension tarp would be good. I also need to include I need a griddle and possible an oven of some description in the kitchen equipment area.

On a very serious note including a drive out with with the 101 and an eating experience at the end is a really satisfying experience. Hopefully we'll be able to arrange at least one a month. For Christmas I would like to propose a Boxing Day 101 run out somewhere in the south to include a cooked lunch - possibly a BBQ - to take a break from the normal excesses of the festive season; any takers?

All the very best

I like your style chaps! This has got me thinking about manifold cookery-I`ve never tried ...but wouldn`t it be sweet to rock up after a trundle and have dindins already cooked? I wholeheartedly agree with you about Santapod, that would be a very cool place for a regular meet...

Great! Been thinking how I can make a bracket to hang our petrol stove off the side/back of the truck, obviously not next to the fuel tank

Not exactly cooking but its on the same theme. If you don't use it and enjoy it you will sell it. I'm not into other Land rovers or Military stuff maybe its harder for me than many to get that usage right. I just like this one truck.

An ex military driver told me about the stretcher beds which are a real Gem and now its now a four berth camper for 6' people going to visit attractions and shows.

Basically cut the ends off the stretcher back to the ally poles whereby they then just fit across the side panels. Then fit jubilee clips on the poles as stops so they cant slide off the sides. OUt of use they roll up and store on the diagonal frame supports. Now I can cheekily stop over in all sorts of places.

Not exactly on the tailgate as I don't have one but it was off the side of the truck while away in Cornwall
