Can anyone help me locate some IRR black glint tape as used on some 101s in RAF service ?
I need about 8 metres.

The stuff on eBay has a hexagonal pattern and is NOT what I am looking for.
Does anyone have a roll of the original tape for sale ?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
I managed to get some on ebay a while back, it's not exactly what you're looking for (too wide), think it came in multiples of 1 metre lengths.

This what you're looking for? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Meter-Car-T ... Lsa0C9lgaA

Hi Dave.
Thanks for the link.
I don't think it is Infra Red Reflective tape , which is what I am after.
At that price I might buy some and try it.

I have been out and checked the tape on my 101 and it doesn't seem to have
any normal reflective properties so I guess it might be IR only.

Thanks for the tip though.

Cheers
Steve

SteveGully . Thanks for the reply. The tape you found is reflective alright , but in all spectra. Ie any light makes it light up. The stuff I'm after is ONLY IR reflective . I tested the tape on my 101 tonight and it doesn't reflect visible light. At the price of that tape though I'm going to buy a couple of rolls anyway.

Brian . The company you suggested does make reflective tape but is trade only. They would point me to a retailer though. Their tape comes in rolls 1.22 metres wide and in custom lengths at approx £60 per metre . They will chop the roll into smaller widths if you want. I will look at their tech sheet to see if is only IR reflective.

There IS glint tape out there but it has a hexagonal pattern . The item I want IS available in the US but seems to be restricted to Law Enforcement or Military only.

I hope someone has a roll of MOD glint tape lying around.

Thanks for the replies.

Cheers

Steve

If it is of any help, the tape that came on my ex-RAF 101 reflected visible light: and that is how it was cast.

It consisted of clear glass beads embedded in a plastic film on a black (visible light) background, very similar construction to the reflective backgrounds for number plates.

Roger.

Thanks for replying Roger. I tried my existing tape and it definitely doesn't react to visible light.
However , I tried my only IR source (a TV remote ) and it didn't react to that either ( you could see the IR flashes on a phone camera).

Maybe, like the IRR paint, the original tape degrades with age ?

I'd be interested to hear from any ex- military that fitted this stuff and whether it was IR and visible light reflective .

Meanwhile I have ordered up some visible/IR reflective tape as was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Cheers

Steve
